The Journey of Transformation: How a Hawk Ignited My Passion

I've been asked this question more times than I can count: "Why the hawk?" I realized I've never really shared the full story, so I thought Patreon would be the perfect place to do it. After all, many of you have been part of this journey from the beginning.

It all goes back to September 2021.

I was outside one afternoon, just going about my day, when I happened to look up and saw a hawk flying overhead. It wasn't doing anything extraordinary, but for some reason I couldn't stop watching it. I stood there for a minute just following it across the sky. I still can't explain exactly why it caught my attention—it just did.

The funny thing is, I didn't even know hawks were common in California. Growing up, whenever someone mentioned a hawk, the first thing that came to mind was the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. That was really my only connection to the word, so seeing one flying around where I lived completely caught me off guard. I remember thinking, "I didn't even know we had hawks here."

Looking back, I think that moment happened at exactly the right time. At that point in my life, I was trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go. I had ideas, goals, and dreams, but I was still discovering what kind of creator I wanted to become. I knew I wanted to build something meaningful—something that reflected who I was—but I hadn't figured out exactly what that looked like yet.

Later that same day, I sat down at my computer and started researching hawks. If you know me, you know I love learning about random things. Whenever something catches my attention, I naturally want to know more about it. I wasn't looking for inspiration, and I wasn't trying to come up with a brand. I was simply curious.

As I kept reading, I learned that many cultures and traditions associate hawks with vision, focus, wisdom, awareness, and seeing the bigger picture. Whether you believe in the spiritual side of it or simply appreciate the symbolism, those ideas really resonated with me. The more I read, the more I realized those were qualities I wanted to develop in my own life. I wanted to become someone who stayed focused, kept learning, and never lost sight of the bigger picture, even when life got difficult.

Reading about the hawk didn't suddenly change my life overnight. Instead, it gave me something to carry with me. It became a reminder to stay focused on where I wanted to go instead of getting distracted by where I was.

Then something happened that still makes me smile. I started noticing hawks everywhere. Whether I was driving somewhere, taking a walk, or simply looking out the window, it felt like every time I looked up, there was another hawk.

Maybe they had always been there, and I just never noticed them before. Maybe once something becomes meaningful, your mind naturally starts recognizing it more. I honestly don't know. What I do know is that every time I see one now, it reminds me of that afternoon in September 2021. It reminds me to stay patient, stay curious, keep learning, and trust the process.

I've joked with friends more than once that one day I should get a hawk tattoo. The funny thing is, it doesn't really feel like a joke anymore. If I ever do get one, it won't just be because I like the bird. It'll represent where this journey began and everything I've learned along the way.

Over time, I realized I kept coming back to the hawk. It wasn't a decision I made overnight, and I didn't wake up the next day and redesign everything. It happened naturally. The more I thought about it, the more I realized the hawk represented the kind of person I wanted to become and the kind of work I wanted to create.

Eventually, I told myself, "This is it."

That's when the hawk officially became part of my brand.

The first place it really came to life was with the Hawk-IT Podcast. When I launched the podcast, I wanted it to be more than conversations about technology. I wanted it to be a place where people could learn something new, hear different perspectives, and leave every episode with something valuable. Looking back now, I realize that same curiosity that made me research a hawk back in 2021 is the same curiosity that drives the conversations I have today.

As time went on, the hawk grew beyond just the podcast. It became the identity behind everything I create. Today, it's part of my interviews, this blog, future projects, and my overall media brand. Whenever someone sees the hawk, I hope they don't just see a logo. I hope they see a commitment to learning, meaningful conversations, and always striving to grow.

People see the hawk and recognize my brand. I see the hawk and remember where it all began.

Every time I see one, it reminds me why I create, why I keep learning, and why I never want to stop growing. Every podcast episode, every interview, every blog post, and every project is another opportunity to build on the vision that started with one unexpected moment.

Looking back, it's amazing how one ordinary afternoon ended up shaping so much of my life. If someone had told me back in September 2021 that a simple encounter with a hawk would eventually inspire the Hawk-IT Podcast, my interviews, this blog, and my entire media brand, I probably would've laughed. But life has a funny way of working. Sometimes the smallest moments end up becoming the foundation for something much bigger than we ever imagined.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever shared this full story before. A lot of people have asked me over the years why I use the hawk, but I've never really sat down and explained where it all came from. It felt right to finally share it here first because you've supported this journey from the beginning.

Whether you've been here since day one or you're just discovering my work, thank you. Your support means more than you know, and I'm grateful you're here for this journey.

There are still more conversations to have, more people to interview, more stories to tell, and more ideas to bring to life. No matter where this journey takes me next, one thing I know for sure is this:

The hawk will always remind me where it all started.

Thank you for reading.
